Real Talk: What Actually Makes Agents Succeed

Most agents start their careers excited. Motivated. Even obsessed.

But somewhere between lead #38 ghosting you and your pipeline drying up, that fire starts to fizzle. Sound familiar?

So let’s get to the truth: what really separates the agents who scale from the ones who stay stuck?

I dove into this exact convo with Tomas Fonseca on the Icons of Real Estate Podcast—and we didn’t hold back.

From Admin Desk to 50 Closings My First Year

Before I ever sold a home, I was managing operations, building systems, and training agents behind the scenes. And then it hit me:

“If I’m coaching agents… why not become one?”

So I did. I got licensed. And within 12 months, I closed 50 homes and hit six figures.

Not because I had the best sphere or the fanciest tools—but because I knew how to work. I knew how to follow up. And I wasn’t scared to take messy action before I felt “ready.”

That year rewired my entire mindset about what was possible and set the tone for the business I would go on to build.

Leaving It All Behind to Start Over

One of the wildest parts of my story?

Walking away from a thriving Oregon business and moving to Florida where I had zero connections.

People thought I lost my mind. But I knew the truth: I wasn’t starting over. I was building from experience.

In less than 4 months, I had:

  • Rebuilt my lead pipeline

  • Hired new agents for my Florida local team

  • Launched a new brand

  • Created a fully optimized operations system

Not from scratch—from strategy.

So if you’re wondering whether you could rebuild in a new city or switch directions in your business, here’s my advice: your systems matter more than your contacts.

Real Estate Success = Confidence, Follow-Up, and Lead Gen

Here’s what I break down inside the podcast (and inside my coaching program, The Hype Collective):

Confidence Through Action

Confidence doesn’t come first. Action does.

Most agents wait to feel confident before they show up boldly but that’s backward.

Take the action. Then the confidence follows.

Follow-Up That Actually Converts

Most deals happen after 6–12 touches.

Most agents quit after 2.

You’re not “bothering people” you’re reminding them you’re the best option.

Have a system. Stick to it. Don’t ghost your pipeline.

Lead Gen That Feeds Your Calendar

You need a proactive lead gen strategy that matches your strengths.

Cold calls? Video? DMs? Doesn’t matter—as long as you’re consistent, measurable, and in motion.

Moving to a New Market? Read This.

If you’re relocating your business (or starting fresh), here’s what worked for me:

1. Know Your New Market Cold

Study buyer behavior, pricing trends, and top competitors.

Don’t guess. Don’t assume your old playbook still works.

2. Be Ruthlessly Proactive

Billboards are cute, but cold calls convert.

When you’re the new name in town, you need to initiate the contact. Daily.

3. Be Patient With the Rebuild

Rebuilding a brand doesn’t happen in 30 days.

Track your wins. Tweak your system. Show up, even when it feels slow.

Why Mindset Isn’t Woo Woo It’s the Whole Game

In the podcast, I also share the T-F-A-R model I coach inside The Hype Collective:

Thoughts → Feelings → Actions → Results

It’s how you change outcomes without burning out.

Your thoughts determine your momentum, your consistency, and your clarity. If you’re stuck, this model helps you rewire the root issue—not just throw a new script at it.

The Valley of Disappointment

Every agent hits it.

That stretch where nothing is closing, everyone’s ghosting, and you start questioning your whole career.

I call that the Valley of Disappointment and it’s where most people quit.

But the ones who make it? They double down. They follow up again. They stick to their system even when it feels like it’s not working. Because often, that’s the moment you’re closest to a breakthrough.

What The Hype Collective Is Really About

I built The Hype Collective because agents needed more than “motivation.” They needed real tools, real systems, and a space to actually implement.

Here’s what’s inside:

  • Live Coaching – Biweekly calls that go deep on what’s actually happening in your business

  • The Vault – scripts, email templates, objection handlers, and AI prompts updated monthly

  • The Discord Office – 24/7 access,  support, roleplay, and real community—not a dead Facebook group

It’s built for the agent who wants to grow, not just consume more content.

Why Podcasting Works (And How to Start)

Podcasting is how I share the truth behind the glossy IG reels and staged team pics.

On my show, The Hype Seat, I sit down with builders, creators, and high-performers and ask what really got them here.

No scripts. No fluff. Just straight strategy and real-life pivots.

Shoutout to the Icons of Real Estate team they made my guest experience seamless, and they’ve helped over 50 real estate pros launch their own shows.

If you’ve been thinking about guesting or starting a podcast? Do it. It’s one of the fastest ways to build authority and expand your reach.

Final Word: Keep Showing Up.

If this episode reminded me of anything, it’s this:

Success isn’t flashy.

It’s not a funnel.

It’s not a formula.

It’s the agent who keeps showing up—even when it’s slow.

So if you’re in a rough patch or doubting yourself, listen to the episode. Then take the next step. The strategy’s out there. The support is here. But you’ve gotta bring the consistency.

Stay hype.
